TripSplit is a mobile-first expense-sharing app designed for family and group travel. Instead of splitting bills per person, it splits costs at the household level — so families, couples, or roommates share a single allocation, and the math handles itself. Everyone in a trip sees the same balances and recommended payments, and you settle up with minimal friction.

In short: a Splitwise-style app tuned for group trips, where the unit of sharing is the household rather than the individual, with receipt scanning, flexible split rules, and a clean settlement flow built in.

Trips & onboarding

Create trips with dates, currency, and an image
A two-step onboarding flow walks new trip creators through setting up groups (households), then inviting members
Dashboard of all your trips with status (upcoming / active / completed), total spent, and delete capability

Households & members

Group people into households with adult/child counts — kids can be weighted differently (e.g., 50% share)
Invite members by email via Gmail; invitations are claimed automatically when they sign in
Admins can remove members (revoking trip-wide access) and manage roles

Expenses

Add expenses with merchant, category, date, split method, notes, tax/tip, and receipts
Multiple split methods: equal-by-household, weighted-by-people, adult/child pricing, or custom
Attach receipt photos or PDFs; PDFs can be parsed via AI to pre-fill fields
Search expenses by description, merchant, notes, payer, or category
Filter by category group (meals, attractions, gifts, etc.)

Balances & settlement

Automatic household balances: total paid vs. total share, per trip
Smart "recommended payments" that minimize the number of transfers needed to settle up
Manually reroute who pays whom (e.g., have a household pay a specific creditor) with a dropdown

Export the settlement plan as an image to share with the group

Row-level security on all data — users only see trips they belong to, and only admins can modify settings or remove members
